Rustux: The End š§šŖ¦
Hey everyone,
After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to shut down the server.
When I started it, my only goal was to play Vanilla Rust on Linuxāsomething that’s nearly impossible on most servers. This place was never meant to become something big or demanding. But over time, running the server, managing Discord, maintaining the website and uMod plugins, helping players, and tracking cheaters turned into a massive commitmentāboth in time and money.
Iāve been putting in around 200 hours a month and paying 100ā¬/month out of my pocket. And while there have been some great moments, the overall experience as an admin has become exhausting. The constant complaints, accusations, and toxicity from some players drained the joy from what was supposed to be just a fun side project. I never wanted to be an admināI just wanted to play Rust.
The straw that broke the camelās back was when some players accused me in-game of “admin abuse” after finding items tagged with “Jin”. They immediately jumped to the conclusion that I was using “Jin” to give “Nikita” items. It never seemed to occur to them that sometimes Iām just too lazy to log out with “Jin” for the hundredth time that day, and I collect crates or run Cargo with that account. The only time I ever used the admin panel to give myself items was a mini and a few rockets at the end of the first wipeājust to shoot some bears with M.S.G. It was wipe day, we didnāt care anymore and just wanted to have some fun. I even typed “ADMIN ABUSE” in chat so everyone knew we were just messing around.
Iāve always played fairly, never used admin powers to gain any real advantage, and Iāve done my best to run this place with integrity. But no matter how transparent I tried to be, suspicion always followedāand thatās just not something I want to carry anymore. Now I understand why there are no admins left on high-pop servers: no one wants this job.
I want to thank a few people:
- “CyberKiller”, for being the very first player on the server and for all the good pies you gave me.
- “at”, for the many fun runs we did at Oil and Cargo together.
- “Jertz”, for being a fair PvP player and for the raid we did together.
- “??”, for being kind and genuine.
And last but not least, “M.S.G.”, for being the best teammate and human being Iāve ever met in my 1800 hours of Rust.
To all the people I mentioned: thank you so muchāand Iām sorry I couldnāt live up to the task in the long run.
Take care,
Nikita
